Predicted Winners in BOLD:
Could an All USA Semifinal Be in the Works?
ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM (Noon start)
[1] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) vs [20] CoCo Vandeweghe (USA) – This match is hard for me to call. Pliskova serves well and hits really clean shots. I think Pliskova’s serve is a bit bigger than Vandeweghe’s, but CoCo can also belt her serves. I think CoCo moves better than the world #1. Pliskova has more experience, but CoCo is 2-1 head-to-head with her only loss coming on red clay. That has to be good for CoCo’s mental outlook. My head says Pliskova wins in 2, but my gut says Vandeweghe wins in 2 or 3 sets. I will trust their head-to-head and my gut.
[15] Madison Keys (USA) vs [Q] Kaia Kanepi (EST) – This entire match is on Madison Keys’ racquet. If she keeps her error count down, Keys should be in the semifinal round. I like Keys winning with an easy 1st set and a tight second set.
Madison Keys, spurred by the crowd, tapped a deeper vein of emotion in her #USOpen comeback win Monday night: https://t.co/IdimBBWz85 pic.twitter.com/0eloU6cP5A
