Dan Martin: Assistant Tennis Coach at Saint Xavier High School in Kentucky

I am sorry that I did not get any Australian Open predictions posted for this evening/morning’s matches.  I did want to share that for the third time in my life that I will be helping to coach a high school tennis team.  I will continue to write for Tennis Abides of course and will hopefully be able to work insights into tennis training for juniors into future posts.

I was warmly welcomed to the boys’ tennis team today by the highly decorated Saint Xavier High School as an assistant coach.   I played high school tennis at Saint Xavier many years ago and feel a great sense of pride about being part of the program again.  St. X has won 9 consecutive state titles in Kentucky and a total of 26 state titles from 1982-present.  Prior to 1982, the state of Kentucky awarded state titles to a singles player and to a doubles team, but it did not award an overall state title.  St. X students won many of those state titles prior to 1982.

  • In 2003 and 2004, I was the varsity boys’ tennis coach at Saint Henry District High School in Erlanger Kentucky.
  • From 2013-2015, I was an assistant tennis coach for the girls’ varsity and junior varsity tennis teams at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Kentucky.
