What Were We Doing in 1999?

I remember living in Providence, RI and being at work following Serena Williams’ scoreline vs. Martina Hingis.  I was happy with this result because Hingis struck a negative nerve with me as a fan for the past few seasons.  Serena Williams worked her way through a tough draw (Kim Clijsters in the 3rd round, Conchita Martinez in the rd of 16, Monica Seles in the quarterfinal round, defending champion & #2 seed Lindsey Davenport in the semifinals, and #1 seed Martin Hingis in the final).  I remember Serena building a big lead in the 2nd set after winning the first.  Hingis charged back, but Serena Williams regrouped and took home the big trophy.

I am not sure what you were doing in 1999 at this time, but I can safely say that Bianca Andreescu was born on June 16, 2000.  This is a testament to Serena Williams’ excellence and longevity.  Yet, I can also safely say that Andreescu won Indian Wells and Toronto in 2019 so she has excellence going for her as well.

Enjoy this generational clash
