US Open 2020: September 8th Women’s and Men’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

[23] Yulia Putintseva (KAZ) vs. [28] JenniferBrady (USA) – Brady won Lexington and can win this match if she plays with controlled agression. The problem is if Brady is too aggressive her errors will undo her chances and if she plays it too safe, she can’t bother Putintseva. I think the odds are in Putintseva’s favor if only slightly.

[5] Alexander Zverev (GER) vs. [27] Borna Coric (CRO) – Coric may feel like a player of destiny. He got a much needed quick win after two marathon 5-set affairs. Still, Zverev has weapons and is playing quite well.

[4] Naomi Osaka (JPN) vs Shelby Rogers (USA) I may be crazy, but I think a 2018 championship rematch is likely to be how the draw plays out.

[12] Denis Shapovalov (CAN) vs [20] Pablo Carreño Busta (ESP) – Shapovalov is both one of my son’s favorite players now and is coming off of a very impressive win over Goffin. He’d be slightly favored anyway, but PCB’s mentality after all of the drama is also a factor. PCB can win, and Shapovalov needs to demonstrate control of his many talents to advance.
