Coaching During the Era of COVID-19

Precautions

First, tennis is considered to be a low risk of transmission with COVID-19 which makes coaching easier. Still, my school and team have been rightfully insistent about players and coaches wearing masks when not playing and maintaining distancing. We check temperatures, limit court rotations for possible contact tracing, and have all players and coaches complete a health survey before entering the playing area. We also have an electronic ticketing procedure in place for all parents and coaches of other teams so we can contact trace if need be after a dual match.

The Return of Joy

There are some cold days early in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association tennis season (see below). Still, playing and practicing tennis has been a welcome outlet for players and coaches alike after 12 months of not being able to be together as we might have liked. We are being careful while working hard. Still, it is good to see smiles along with seeing winners being struck. I will say more about this unique season as it unfolds.
