6-4, 6-7, 6-1 in 2011 Could be Close to the 2013 Scoreline
This match, like the entire 2013 Ladies’ draw has been, is hard to predict. Marion Bartoli is unorthodox in her style of play and in her training. Sabine Lisicki is a hot and cold power player with a history of injuries. Neither has been the model of consistency, but both have produced their best career results at Wimbledon.
Keys to the Match: Lisicki obviously has to serve well. Bartoli can hit some strong returns with her two-handed shot production, but Lisicki can move her serve around the box and jam/stretch Bartoli.
Bartoli has to try to take control of points early. I also think if Bartoli grabs a lead she can use her ability to produce tough angles and run the lead out to a decent size before Lisicki can regroup. I don’t think it is in Bartoli’s best interest to go 3 sets here as Lisicki beat Serena and Radwanska in 3rd set showdowns.
I would say more, but this is such an odd matchup that I think overanalyzing it is not going to shed a lot of insights. So … .
My prediction is that Sabine Lisicki will win this match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. In all honesty, I think either player could rout the other one and that Lisicki is at a great advantage if this is a marathon.
A player of destiny?
