Predicted Winners in BOLD
This should be entertaining and seeing how much younger Dimitrov looked in 2011 is making me doubt my pick a lot
Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) – Tsonga is on a major roll at the moment. Dimitrov has to feel great saving match points and coming from behind to win versus Anderson. Still, Tsonga’s current form with back-to-back wins over Nole and Murray makes me think the veteran French player is going to be a little too solid for Dimitrov. To be honest, I have gone back and forth on this match so I am going with momentum as my deciding factor.
An earlier near miss for Ferrer vs. Federer on hard courts
Feliciano Lopez (ESP) vs Roger Federer (SUI) – Federer has not been dominant in reaching the final. He has dropped sets and failed to convert on some opportunities. Still, his game is more complete than FLo’s. So long as Federer can comfortably hold during most of his service games he will be able to then play the match on his terms. If Lopez can hold consistently and get sets to 4-4 and allow for scoreboard pressure and/or a tiebreaks to become factors, he can pressure Roger. Federer can still win if Lopez plays the match on his terms, but the reverse is not true. Therefore, Federer is my pick. Roger having won his first shield in Canada in 2004 is a testament to his longevity on multiple surfaces (see the 2003 and 2014 grass court seasons as well).
