Masters Miami 2015: Andy Murray vs. Novak Djokovic Championship Prediction

Andy Murray vs. Novak Djokovic

This match-up is one we’ve seen many time.  I personally enjoy this match-up a great deal.  I have no real rooting interest so it is easy to appreciate both men’s tennis skills, speed, and ability to extend a point when it seems hopeless.  Both men play a similar game.  They each return exceptionally well.  Both men are among the fastest players on tour.  Both have great backhands.  Murray’s first serve is more powerful than Novak’s.  Nole probably has the more battle tested second serve. Murray’s one-hand slice backhand is a bit better than Novak’s one-handed slice in my view.  Murray has a bit more feel and variety, but Nole is slightly better at most of the skills they share.  Novak is mentally less likely to breakdown.  Still, each player is a bit like a mirror image.  So points are often punishing affairs between these two.

Novak has won all 6 matches the two have contested since Murray beat Djokovic to win the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. Murray has yet to beat Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer since his back surgery.  I think until Murray beats one of his main rivals it is hard to predict him winning against any of them.  Murray does love playing and Miami.  There are a lot of notions that can be added to this match.  However, 6-0 over the past 6 matches is the factor I am looking at most intently.

My Prediction: Novak Djokovic d. Andy Murray 7-6, 7-5
