Cincinnati 2015: WTA Quarterfinal Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Serena will likely repeat 2014’s result

[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. [6] Ana Ivanovic (SRB) – Ivanovic troubled Serena at times in 2014, but I think Serena’s level of play in 2015 has been higher than it was for most of 2014 while Ana’s has dropped a bit since 2014.  Serena should win in two entertaining sets.

[3] Simona Halep (ROU) vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) – I think Halep is back to playing the type of tennis we saw from her in Miami earlier this year. Therefore, she is likely to advance unless the Russian can victimize Halep’s serve.

[7] Lucie Safarova (CZE) vs. [14] Elina Svitolina (UKR) – Safarova has had a sneaky good year in 2015.  Svitolina is a player to watch for the future, but I like Safarova today.

Jelena Jankovic (SRB) vs. [Q] Anna Schmiedlova (SVK) – I hope I am wrong as a qualifier to a semifinal or better round at a big event such as Cincinnati can make a huge difference in terms of direct entry into tournaments for the next 52 weeks, but JJ is the favorite.
