Predicted Winners in BOLD
So many great matches especially for the seeded players in round 1
Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. Hyeon Chung (KOR) – Novak is a pretty solid favorite to win the whole thing so he is certainly a heavy favorite in this match.
Roger Federer (SUI) vs. Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) – I think Roger wins this match as he wades into a tough draw.
Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs Yuki Bhambri (IND) – The Big Czech won’t bounce here.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs. Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) – A battle of two former Australian Open runner-up finishers may come down to fitness. In that case, I like Tsonga.
Kei Nishikori (JPN) vs Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) – This is a terrible draw for Kei. If Kei returns well and controls the baseline, he will win. If Kohlschreiber can push Kei backwards or pull him off of the court, Kohlschreiber wins.
Nick Kyrgios (AUS) vs. Pablo Carreno Busta (ESP) – I like Nick, but this is not an ideal draw.
David Goffin (BEL) vs Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR) –
Gilles Simon (FRA) vs Vasek Pospisil (CAN) – If Simon is not healthy, I think Vasek overpowers him.
Marin Cilic (CRO) vs. Thiemo de Bakker (NED) – Marin won Brisbane and should do well in Melbourne.
Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) vs Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) – Grigor may be eyeing a round of 32 clash with Federer but would do well not to overlook Lorenzi.
Austin Krajicek (USA) vs. [Q] Di Wu (CHN) – The qualifier is likely match tough.
Ricardas Berankis (LTU) vs. Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR) – I am torn on this one. With Dolgopolov it is hard to predict anything.
Julien Benneteau (FRA) vs. Nicolas Almagro (ESP) – Veterans clash
Benoit Paire (FRA) vs [WC] Noah Rubin (USA)
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) vs. Paul-Henri Mathieu (FRA) – Another clash of veterans
[WC] Omar Jasika (AUS) vs. Illya Marchenko (UKR)
Dominic Thiem (AUT) vs. Leonardo Mayer (ARG) – A tremendous match on the outer courts. Either one could do damage in the draw.
Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN) vs. Pablo Cuevas (URU)
Kyle Edmund (GBR) vs. Damir Dzumhur (BIH)
Jiri Vesely (CZE) vs. [Q] Renzo Olivo (ARG)
Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ESP) vs. Borna Coric (CRO) – This match could go either way, but I think Coric’s strong play in India
Andreas Seppi (ITA) vs Teymuraz Gabashvili (RUS) – This is another great match on the outer courts.
Ivo Karlovic (CRO) vs. Federico Delbonis (ARG) – Delbonis can win if he takes care of his own serve and takes some breakers.
Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) vs Martin Klizan (SVK) – Another match that is close to 50-50. RBA’s title in Aukland gives him the nod.
Evgeny Donskoy (RUS) vs. Inigo Cervantes (ESP) – Will Cervantes tilt at any windmills?
[WC] Quentin Halys (FRA) vs. Ivan Dodig (CRO)
Robin Haase (NED) vs. [Q] Mirza Basic (BIH)
Filip Krajinovic (SRB) vs. Denis Kudla (USA) – Kudla can do it.
Victor Estrella Burgos (DOM) vs. [Q] Daniel Brands (GER) – Match toughness helps Brands.
Dusan Lajovic (SRB) vs. Sam Querrey (USA) – Sam could win, but things have not gone so well for him as of late.
Pablo Andujar (ESP) vs. [Q] Pierre-Hughes Herbert (FRA) – I love Andujar’s grit.
[Q] Jozef Kovalik (SVK) vs [Q] Marco Trungelliti (ARG) – One of these two qualifiers will get 2nd round computer points and prize money.
