Kei Nishikori vs. Novak Djokovic
Thus far in 2016, Kei has won Memphis, was runner-up in Miami, and runner-up at Barcelona. Those 3 events alone have helped Nishikori bank 1150 ranking points. Kei plays well on clay and has a great history in Madrid. However, I don’t see him beating Novak in Madrid because I can’t see him generating enough offense or eliciting enough errors to topple the world #1. He may win a set, but over time I think Novak finds a way to win this match even if he doesn’t have his “A” game. Nishikori can make spectacular assaults on his opponent, but they are predicated on timing and court positioning. I think Novak will deny him that court positioning if this match turns into a battle. Of course, Novak could simply play airtight tennis and win in a straightforward manner.
My Prediction: Novak Djokovic d. Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-3
