Predicted Winners in BOLD
I did not get to do Day 1 Predictions because of some Hectic Things in Life, but with the Rainout I can Weigh in on the Unfinished Day 1 Matches
[5] Kei Nishikori (JPN) vs. Simone Bolelli (ITA) 6-1 7-5 2-1 (to be completed) – Even without the lead, I would have picked Nishikori here. Bolelli is a solid player, but Kei has played well enough coming in to think he reaches the second week in Paris.
[13] Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) vs. [Q] Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) 4-6 6-1 3-1 (to be completed) – Kuznetsova has won Roland Garros before and could be a factor in the second week if her draw breaks the right way. She should finish this match off, but the rain likely saved Shevdova and gives her a second chance.
[23] Jack Sock (USA) vs. Robin Haase (NED) 6-3 7-5 3-6 6-7(3) (to be completed) – Jack Sock went from likely to advance to likely to be eliminated to getting a second chance. I am not sure that will be enough. If he can clear his mind and simply start over, I like Sock to advance. Hence, I am picking Hasse as I think putting wheels back on that came off is harder than it appears.
Nicole Gibbs (USA) vs. Heather Watson (GBR) 7-5 2-6 2-1 (to be completed) – Watson entered Paris with some question marks about lingering injuries. So long as she is reasonably healthy, I think she shakes off a tight first set and advances.
[Q] Dustin Brown (GER) vs. Dudi Sela (ISR) 6-7(5) 6-4 7-6(5) 1-1 (to be completed) – This match has been fun and I expect a fun 5 set ending in Brown’s favor.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich (BLR) vs. [Q] Cagla Buyukakcay (TUR) 7-5 6-7(2) 2-1 (to be completed) – I think coming through qualifying will help Buyukakcay in what is obviously a pretty even match.
