[5] Steve Johnson (USA) vs [13] Ivo Karlovic (CRO) H2H – Johnson beating Isner should give him some good practice in terms of facing the areas of the surface box Ivo’s delivery’s can reach.  Karlovic attacks the net much more frequently than Isner, but I like Johnson to win this match with at least one tiebreak set being contested.

[2] Gael Monfils (FRA) vs [7-WC] Alexander Zverev (GER) – Zverev has had a great ride in DC, but I think one of the maddening things about Monfils will actually help him in this match.  Monfils often plays too defensively when he could dictate play.  Zverev has a great deal of power, and Monfils’ well-honed defensive skills should actually help him blunt Zverev’s power.
