Masters Canada 2016: July 26th ATP Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Alexander Zverev (GER) vs. Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE) H2H – I often am wrong when I pick against Lu in early rounds.

[10] Gaël Monfils (FRA) vs. Joao Sousa (POR) H2H – Gael faces a tough opponent, but I like Gael’s chances.

[5] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. Borna Coric (CRO) H2H – Berdych will likely have too much firepower to lose to Coric at this stage of each man’s career.

Vasek Pospisil (CAN) vs. Jérémy Chardy (FRA) H2H – If Pospisil serves really well, he could pull the upset, but Chardy is the more solid player.

[2] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs. Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) – Stan wins a war of one-handed backhands.

[14] Benoit Paire (FRA) vs. [Q] Radek Stepanek (CZE) H2H – I almost took the worm.

Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR) vs. Donald Young (USA) H2H  – I think Young can pull the upset as his game matches up reasonably well with Dolgopolov’s.

[15] Steve Johnson (USA) vs. Fabio Fognini (ITA) H2H – Fognini just won a title on Sunday and had to fly across the ocean.  Oh yeah, he is also switching surfaces from clay to hard courts.  This all benefits Johnson’s chances.

Ivo Karlovic (CRO) vs. Taylor Fritz (USA) H2H – Ivo is having a really solid summer.

Federico Delbonis (ARG) vs. [Q] Dennis Novikov (USA) H2H

[13] Lucas Pouille (FRA) vs. [Q] Emilio Gomez (ECU) H2H – Emilio Gomez is the son of 1990 French Open champion Andres Gomez.  I don’t think that will help him much vs. Pouille, but it is a fun factoid.

John Millman (AUS) vs. [Q] Jared Donaldson (USA) H2H

Ernests Gulbis (LAT) vs. Rajeev Ram (USA) H2H – Gulbis should win if he is dialed in to this match.  Hence my pick.  I know Ram will bring whatever he has to the table.
