Montreal 2016: July 26th WTA Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Sara Errani (ITA) vs. [WC] Aleksandra Wozniak (CAN) – I don’t think the Canadian wins this match.

Genie Bouchard (CAN) vs. Lucie Safarova (CZE) – Again, I think the home crowd will not see what it wants.

[3] Garbiñe Muguruza (ESP) vs. Naomi Broady (GBR) – The Roland Garros champion needs to build some equity before Rio and the US Open.

[5] Simona Halep (ROU) vs. Daria Gavrilova (AUS) – The Aussie could have had better luck in the draw than this.  Halep should win.

Alizé Cornet (FRA) vs. Andrea Petkovic (GER) – Two of the more interesting players on the tour will face-off.  I think Cornet has a bit more variety, but a little less grit than Petkovic so this is a 50-50 match.  In French Canada, I might give a slight edge to Cornet.

[10] Madison Keys (USA) vs. Elena Vesnina (RUS) – This could be the match of the day. Both players are quite good, but Keys has had better results in 2016 despite Vesnina’s Wimbledon semifinal run.

[15] Johanna Konta (GBR) vs. Shelby Rogers (USA) – I like Konta so long as she is not worn out from her title win on Sunday and travel to Montreal from California.

[WC] Françoise Abanda (CAN) vs. [Q] Saisai Zheng (CHN) – I have to pick at least one Canadian don’t I?  I actually think Zheng will win due to her qualifying matches making her match tough.

[11] Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) vs. [Q] Mariana Duque-Mariño (COL)

[16] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) vs. Yulia Putintseva (KAZ)

Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) vs. [Q] Alla Kudryavtseva (RUS)

Timea Babos (HUN) vs. [Q] Vania King (USA)

Shuai Zhang (CHN) vs. [LL] Christina McHale (USA) – McHale played so well at Wimbledon that I wish her ranking were high enough to skip qualifying rounds/lucky loser entries.

[14] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) vs. [Q] Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR) – This could be a fun match for those with tickets.

Daria Kasatkina (RUS) vs. Misaki Doi (JPN)

Monica Niculeascu (ROU) vs. Jelena Ostapenko (LAT)

Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) vs. [Q] Kristina Kucova (SVK) – Wickmayer is usually a pretty tough player to eliminate.
