Indian Wells 2017: March 11th ATP Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

STADIUM 1 (11 a.m. start)

[7] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs. Fabio Fognini (ITA)  H2H – This could go either way, but Tsonga has a lot of good results in 2017 so he is clearly favored.

[3] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs. Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) H2H – Stan could win this event due to a nice draw and a surface that may mesh well with his game.

[1] Andy Murray (GBR) vs. [Q] Vasek Pospisil (CAN) H2H – Murray rolls

[8] Dominic Thiem (AUT) vs. Jérémy Chardy (FRA) H2H – Chardy’s blunt power could spring an upset, but I think Thiem can get to Chardy’s backhand and unravel the big hitter’s game.

[20] John Isner (USA) vs. [LL] Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) H2H – I foresee tiebreakers.

[13] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. [WC] Bjorn Fratangelo  (USA) H2H

[19] Ivo Karlovic (CRO) vs. [LL] Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN) H2H – Ivo’s big 2016 campaign gives hope to older players.  Given the trend toward “small ball” in the NBA and Ivo’s longevity one might think big guys are better off playing tennis.

[28] Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) vs. Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR) H2H – Steady vs. unpredictable

[10] Gaël Monfils (FRA) vs. [Q] Darian King (BAR) H2H

[11] David Goffin (BEL) vs. Karen Khachanov (RUS) H2H

[27] Pablo Cuevas (URU) vs. Martin Klizan (SVK) H2H – Cuevas will need to make a surface adjustment, but he has momentum.

[30] Feliciano Lopez (ESP) vs. [Q] Dusan Lajovic (SRB) H2H – Lopez could use some wins.

[16] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) vs. Adrian Mannarino (FRA) H2H – I like Bautista Agut’s game a lot.

[21] Pablo Carreño Busta (ESP) vs. [Q] Peter Gojowczyk (GER)  H2H

[29] Mischa Zverev (GER) vs. Joao Sousa (POR) H2H

[22] Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ESP) vs. Damir Dzumhur (BIH) H2H – I picked a lot of chalk today.
