Order of play
Stadium (11 a.m. start)
[2] Kei Nishikori (JPN) vs. Federico Delbonis (ARG) H2H – Kei is likely to return well enough to win this match in a fairly straightforward manner.
[5] Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs. Nicolas Mahut (FRA) H2H – Mahut doesn’t have enough weapons to really bother Nadal.
[4] Roger Federer (SUI) vs. [14] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) H2H – Federer needs to avoid a protracted baseline duel, but if he does that, he advances.
[8] David Goffin (BEL) vs [12] Nick Kyrgios (AUS) – I like Kyrgios to win this match, but it will be a clash of styles.
Grandstand (10:50 a.m.)
Fabio Fognini (ITA) vs. Donald Young (USA) H2H – I have a feeling about Fognini in this one.
[13] Jack Sock (USA) vs. [Q] Jared Donaldson (USA) H2H – Sock continuing his strong play from Indian Wells would bode well for his remaining 2017 schedule and seeding.
[10] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. Adrian Mannarino (FRA) H2H – Berdych should be able to play big man tennis well enough to advance here.
[1] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs [16] Alexander Zverev (GER) – The #1 seed playing on the grandstand? Okay. I think Wawrinka wins this generational clash, but my guess is that within 2 years this match-up favors Zverev.
