French Open 2017: June 2nd Men’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD:

I wish I had a Ticket to This Slate of Matches

Court Philippe-Chatrier (11 a.m. start)

[4] Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) – Rafa’s biggest concern may be peaking too early in the 2017 clay season.  He should ease into the final 16.
[2] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs Diego Schwartzman (ARG) – Novak has been steadily rebuilding his results and then added Agassi to his team.  I think he keeps advancing.

Court Suzanne-Lenglen

[10] David Goffin (BEL) vs Horacio Zeballos (ARG) – This should be full of fun points whether it goes 3, 4, or 5 sets.
[16] Lucas Pouille (FRA) vs [19] Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ESP) – Based on form I think Ramos-Vinolas advances in what could be the match of the day.

Court 1

[11] Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) vs [20] Pablo Carreno Busta (ESP) – Dimitrov had better bring a blue collar attitude to this match, but if he does, the Bulgarian should eliminate the gritty PCB.
[6] Dominic Thiem (AUT) vs [25] Steve Johnson (USA) – I feel badly picking against Johnson, but Thiem is the clear favorite on paper.  I am not sure how much paper will matter for the first 1 to 2 sets though.

Court 2

[5] Milos Raonic (CAN) vs Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) – Milos should have enough to overpower GGL, but if Milos is error prone or serving a little under his usual level, GGL wins.

Court 3

[17] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) vs Jiri Vesely (CZE) – I can see this being a great match for fans sitting court side.

  1. Yep, Theim will be victorious…but wouldn’t it be nice if Steve Johnson could win one more.
