[14] Petra Kvitova (CZE) vs. Anett Kontaveit (EST) – I am not sure how Cincinnati’s humid climate will mesh with Petra Kvitova’s breathing issues, but I think (for this round at least) that Petra wins.

[13] Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) vs. Daria Gavrilova (AUS) – The young Aussie has not had the 2017 she was expecting.  I don’t think her fortunes change this week given this tough draw.

[16] Madison Keys (USA) vs CoCo Vandeweghe (USA) – Each of them had breakout Aussie Opens, and each can play punishing tennis.  I think Keys is in better form at this moment.

Kiki Bertens (NED) vs. [WC] Océane Dodin (FRA)

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (CRO) vs. Carla Suárez Navarro (ESP) (not before 8:30 p.m.) – I could see this match going either way.  Both players are likely glad to be playing in the cooler and less humid evening.

Timea Babos (HUN) vs. Roberta Vinci (ITA) – This is another match that could go either way, but I think Vinci’s variety gives her a slight edge.
