US Open 2017: September 1st Men’s Singles Predictions

ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM (11 a.m. start)

[Q] Denis Shapovalov (CAN) vs. Kyle Edmund (GBR) (not before 1 p.m.)  – On firepower, I like Shapovalov.  On experience, I like Kyle Edmund.  My gut is leaning toward the young Canadian.

Isner’s Serve Likely Means an 11th Career Title

[10] John Isner (USA) vs [23] Mischa Zverev (GER) (7 p.m.) – I am not sure about how many service breaks we will see.

LOUIS ARMSTRONG STADIUM

[12] Pablo Carreno Busta (ESP) vs [Q] Nicolas Mahut (FRA) – Mahut deserves a lot of credit for his two wins and certainly could get a 3rd.  Still, I like PCB to win.

[17] Sam Querrey (USA) vs [Q] Radu Albot (MDA) (not before 5 p.m.) – Querry to the finals?

GRANDSTAND

[5] Marin Cilic (CRO) vs [29] Diego Schwartzman (ARG) – Marin Cilic is now the favorite in his half of the draw.

[28] Kevin Anderson (RSA) vs. Borna Coric (CRO) – Momentum leads to a minor upset?

COURT 17

Thomas Fabbiano (ITA) vs. Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) – Italian intrigue

[16] Lucas Pouille (FRA) vs [Q] Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) – Pouille has to be happy with what lies in front of him, but this is no easy match.
