Australian Open 2018: Day 3 Women’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

[4] Elina Svitolina (UKR) vs. Katerina Siniakova (CZE) – I could see one set being close, but chalk advances.

[2] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) vs. Jana Fett (CRO) – Woz in Oz – somehow I have to come up with a tag line here.

[23] Daria Gavrilova (AUS) vs. Elise Mertens (BEL) – The young Aussie advances.

[Q] Marta Kostyuk (UKR) vs. [WC] Olivia Rogowska (AUS)

[7] Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) vs. Ying-Ying Duan (CHN) – Ostapenko is on her way to another match win at a major.

[12] Julia Goerges (GER) vs. Alizé Cornet (FRA) – I think Cornet pulls off the mild upset.

[15] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) vs. Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR)

I doubt Bencic’s planetary conquest is like Lex Luthor’s but …

Belinda Bencic (SUI) vs. [Q] Luksika Kumkhum (THA) – Bencic conquered Venus.  Can she conquer earth?

[22] Daria Kasatkina (RUS) vs. Magda Linette (POL)

[30] Kiki Bertens (NED) vs. Nicole Gibbs (USA)

[19] Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK) vs. [Q] Kirsten Flipkens (BEL)

Kaia Kanepi (EST) vs. Monica Puig (PUR) – I am glad to see that Puig can win meaningful matches, but I need to see one or two more wins more before I start picking her again.

Shuai Zhang (CHN) vs. [Q] Denisa Allertova (CZE)

Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) vs. Petra Martic (SLO)

[32] Anett Kontaveit (EST) vs. Mona Barthel (GER)

Carla Suárez Navarro (ESP) vs. Timea Babos (HUN) – CSN should be ranked high enough to get one of the thirty-two seeds.  This event could help re-establish her.
