Australian Open 2018: Day 4 Men’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

[14] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. Gaël Monfils (FRA) – Djokovic is 14-0 vs. Monfils.  I expect 15-love to be the result of this match.

[2] Roger Federer (SUI) vs. Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) – Federer trying to avoid the fate of the gazelles.

[5] Dominic Thiem (AUT) vs. [Q] Denis Kudla (USA) – Kudla is a tough competitor, but I doubt he has the weapons to win this match vs. Thiem.

[9] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs. Tennys Sandgren (USA)

[12] Juan Martin del Potro (ARG) vs. Karen Khachanov (RUS) – Khachanov seems to always force good players to eliminate him so that is a plus.  The minus is that JMDP is a good player.

[4] Alexander Zverev (GER) vs. Peter Gojowczyk (GER) – Can Zverev pull attention from Djokovic and Federer’s combined 11 titles in the bottom half of the draw?

[19] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) – This should be fun and close, but I think Berdych’s serve gives him too big of an edge for GGL to overcome.

[7] David Goffin (BEL) vs. Julien Benneteau (FRA)

[13] Sam Querrey (USA) vs. Marton Fucsovics (HUN) – Querrey has reached the final 8 or better at 3 of the last 6 majors.  Could he be headed that way again?

[29] Richard Gasquet (FRA) vs. [Q] Lorenzo Sonego (ITA)

[21] Albert Ramos-Viñolas (ESP) vs. [WC] Tim Smyczek (USA)

[25] Fabio Fognini (ITA) vs. Evgeny Donskoy (RUS) – Fognini is an enigma so he could lose this match.

Daniil Medvedev (RUS) vs. Hyeon Chung (KOR)

Fernando Verdasco (ESP) vs. Maximilian Marterer (GER) – Aging Hot Sauce advances.

Lukas Lacko (SVK) vs. Nicolas Kicker (ARG)

[26] Adrian Mannarino (FRA) vs. Jiri Vesely (CZE) – A mild upset

  1. Yep, should be pretty straight forward.
