Petra Kvitova (6) vs. Sorana Cirstea
A lot of first round matches featuring seeded players lack a level of intrigue. To be sure, Kvitova has more weapons and should win this match. Still, Sorona Cirstea is a talented player who can push Kvitova. If the courts play slower than Kvitova would like, an upset could happen. Score pressure and not being into a specific event can lower a seed’s level of play.

For Kvitova to win, she will need to be patient and allow her greater array of shots to generate a lead over time. For Cirstea to win, she will need to keep the match close and let the scoreboard and seeding place pressure on Kvitova’s shoulders.
