Wimbledon 2019: Federer and Nadal’s Wimbledon Tiebreaks

Earlier in the event, I noticed that Nick Kyrgios had won all 5 tiebreaks played against Rafael Nadal.  Rafa reversed this trend winning vs. Kyrgios 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3).  Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal contested their 4th Wimbledon clash today.  While only one set today went to a tiebreak, Roger Federer added to his favorable record vs. Rafa in Wimbledon tiebreaks.

Here is their tiebreak break down:

2006 Wimbledon Final: Roger Federer d. Rafael Nadal 6-0, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (2), 6-3

Federer +2 in non-tiebreak sets in 2006

2007 Wimbledon Final: Roger Federer d. Rafael Nadal 7-6 (7), 4-6, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2

Nadal +1 in non-tiebreak sets in 2007

2008 Wimbledon Final: Rafael Nadal d. Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7

Nadal +3 in non-tiebreak sets in 2008

2019 Wimbledon Semifinal: Roger Federer d. Rafael Nadal 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4

Federer +1 in non-tiebreak sets in 2019

Roger Federer has won 11 sets in their matches.  6 of 11 sets won were in tiebreaks.

Rafael Nadal has won 7 sets in their Wimbledon matches.  1 of 7 sets won were in tiebreaks.

Federer being 6-1 in Wimbledon tiebreaks vs. Nadal is one of the reasons that tilts their Wimbledon series 3-1 in Federer’s favor.
