5 Songs to Listen to and 3 to Avoid during Social Distancing and Covid-19

Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees is an obvious way to make days of boredom feel more heroic.

Avoid – Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire – It is a good song and not about pandemics, but the chorus is not going to leave you in a good place.

Instead, listen to I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.  Again, this is not about pandemics, but the chorus is uplifting in times such as these.

Avoid Santa Monica by Everclear as swimming out past the breakers and watching the world die is a poor message right now.

Consider, Don’t Stand too Close to Me by The Police.  Not only might it suggest social distancing, but the specter of law enforcement may help get people who don’t respect social space to think twice.

Also, consider listening to Big Empty by Stone Temple Pilots as the words “conversations kill” can easily be amended to “conversations kill unless using Google Hangouts/Meet, iMessage, Whatsapp, etc.”

Certainly, pass on Down with the Sickness by Disturbed.  I will not get up nor get down with the sickness.

The Jury is Out on REM’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine).  From a social, political, and economic perspective, everything is going to change, but are people really ready to come to terms with that (let alone feel fine)?  If not, maybe this song should hold for August 2020 or later.
