[1] Richard Gasquet (FRA) vs. [3] Feliciano Lopez (ESP)
This is an interesting match-up. Across the board, Gasquet has more game than Lopez does. Lopez is a lefty and has a better serve. Each man can boast a certain amount of success on grass. Lopez seems due to me after losing the Queen’s Club final despite holding a match point in the second set and a break lead in the third set. The problem for Lopez is that he played his quarterfinal and semifinal match today. To what degree can he recover? Gasquet has yet to replicate his solid 2013 campaign. A win here could hand Gasquet momentum as he heads into a draw in which he could do damage.
Prediction: I think Gasquet being the more rested player will find a way to win in two tight sets. Gasquet d. Lopez 7-5, 6-4
Feli’s really pushing it. He came so close at Queens. He was really disappointed with having given away that match point to Dimitrov, even though Dimi really worked for his victory.
I don’t remember the last time I saw him so motivated; I always thought he was more concerned with his modeling career than his tennis career, but he really seems to want it this time.
I hadn’t been following that much of this tournament, so I didn’t know he had to play back to back QF and SF. Not fair. (Was there a weather problem?)
He too would be a repeat titlist here, I think. I hope he pulls it off.
I think Feli can win but yes playing 2 matches due to rain issues can’t help his recovery – still he played 4 sets so maybe on a surface that does not trap heat or punish joints as much as a hard court 4 sets is something he can recover from.
