I may be the oldest player in the draw, but my points are usually pretty short = longevity
Predicted Winners in BOLD
Andy Murray (GBR) v Ivo Karlovic (CRO) – To beat Karlovic one has to make a dent on his serve. Andy Murray is one of the best returners in the world and should be able to do just that. I think Murray wins in a fairly straightforward manner, but would not be shocked if he loses one set in a tiebreak.
Roger Federer (SUI) v Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) – Federer will need to play clean tennis to win this match, but I think this is a match-up he feels comfortable with at this stage of the tournament. Bautista Agut will need to make errors a factor to contend in this match.
Stan Wawrinka (SUI) v David Goffin (BEL) – I like Stan to win this match, but Goffin can take the ball early a la Davydenko and pressure Stan’s more sweeping groundstrokes. Stan will need to push Goffin backwards in order to be prevail.
Novak Djokovic (SRB) v Kevin Anderson (RSA) – Anderson played awfully well at Queen’s Club and poses a threat to Novak on paper. Anderson’s problem is how air tight Nole’s tennis has been thus far in the event. Novak appears to be too sharp to struggle too much here. Also, like Murray, Novak can break serve against monster servers.
Richard Gasquet (FRA) v Nick Kyrgios (AUS) – Gasquet has played quite well to this point in the tournament. If Gasquet can take care of his serve, I think this is a 50-50 match. Kyrgios is my pick because he has fewer ifs along his path to victory.
Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs Gilles Simon (FRA) – I think Simon can trouble Berdych by being steady and steadfast in his effort. In a 3 of 5 set match, I favor the player with more weapons. I think Berdych will have enough time to figure out point patterns that favor him.
Marin Cilic (CRO) vs [WC] Denis Kudla (USA) – Denis Kudla’s year and career have gotten a major boost from his 3 wins at Wimbledon. If Kudla plays near his best level, he will have a shot at an upset, but I think Cilic is just too powerful and too skilled to be seriously threatened in this match.
Viktor Troicki (SRB) vs Vasek Pospisil (CAN) – The other Serb in the round of 16 has had a wonerful grass court season. That form and confidence should help him vs. Pospisil.
