Wimbledon 2016: Day 2 Gentlemen’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

[2] Andy Murray (GBR) vs [WC] Liam Broady (GBR) – I think Andy will advance.

[4] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs Taylor Fritz (USA) – It will be interesting to see what influence Krajicek brings as part of Stan’s team.

[15] Nick Kyrgios (AUS) v Radek Stepanek (CZE) – This is an intriguing match.  The worm is a veteran who can throw a lot of off-speed shots into a match and make a lot of approaches to the net.  Kyrgios has radioactive power.  I don’t think Stepanek can neutralize that power unless Kyrgios loses focus.

[7] Richard Gasquet (FRA) v Aljaz Bedene (GBR)

[8] Dominic Thiem (AUT) v Florian Mayer (GER) – This could be a fun match, but I think Thiem wins in 4.

[12] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs Inigo Cervantes (ESP) – If Tsonga is healthy, he should advance.

Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG) vs Stéphane Robert (FRA) – A sentimental pick or a smart pick?

[10] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs Ivan Dodig (CRO) – This could be a dangerous match for Berdych.

[18] John Isner (USA) v Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) – Baghdatis played well during the 3 week grass season.  I think he will be ready for a serving duel.

John Millman (AUS) v Albert Montanes (ESP)

Horacio Zeballos (ARG) v Mikhail Youzhny (RUS)

[31] Joao Sousa (POR) vs [PR] Dmitry Tursunov (RUS) – Tursunov might pull the upset, but I think his best tennis is behind him.

Vasek Pospisil (CAN) v Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ESP) – Pospisil could power his way through this match.

Donald Young (USA) v Leonardo Mayer (ARG)

[22] Feliciano Lopez (ESP) vs Rajeev Ram (USA) – FLo vs Rampras should be fun as each man plays a lot of 1990s style tennis.  I think Lopez will win in 4 sets.

Benjamin Becker (GER) v Facundo Bagnis (ARG)

Luke Saville (AUS) v Dennis Novikov (USA)

[14] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) v Jordan Thompson (AUS) – Baustista Agut won a set off of Novak in Paris.

Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE) v Alexander Kudryavtsev (RUS) – Whenever I don’t pick Lu, he seems to win.

Albano Olivetti (FRA) v Matthew Barton (AUS)

[26] Benoit Paire (FRA) v Franko Skugor (CRO)

Federico Delbonis (ARG) v Fabio Fognini (ITA) – This one is unpredictable.

Jiri Vesely (CZE) v Igor Sijsling (NED)

Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) v Martin Klizan (SVK) – If I had tickets, I’d be sure to catch some or all of this match.

Dusan Lajovic (SRB) v Dustin Brown (GER) – Dreddy is dangerous on grass.

[24] Alexander Zverev (GER) v Paul-Henri Mathieu (FRA) – Mathieu is always fit and well-prepared so the youngster will have to play clean tennis to win.

Taro Daniel (JPN) v Juan Monaco (ARG)

Marcel Granollers (ESP) v Victor Estrella Burgos (DOM) – I like Granollers’ game a lot.

Gastao Elias (POR) v Radu Albot (MDA)
