Wimbledon 2016: Day 3 Ladies’ Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Some of these are the same matches I picked yesterday so my brief analysis has been truncated even further

[3] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) v Kateryna Kozlova (UKR) – Aga has good feel for grass and it may help her hold serve more easily as well.

[16] Johanna Konta (GBR) v Monica Puig (PUR) – 6-1 2-1 (to finish) – Once a match is underway, I always stick with my original pick.  In this case so far, that is a good policy.

[5] Simona Halep (ROU) v Francesca Schiavone (ITA) – Halep will need to play well to beat the veteran, but I think she will.

[2] Garbine Muguruza (ESP) v Jana Cepelova (SVK) – Muguruza will advance so long as she avoids a letdown after winning Roland Garros.

[7] Belinda Bencic (SUI) v Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL) – I will stick with my original prediction, but this is a 50-50 match in my eyes.

[8] Venus Williams (USA) v [Q] Maria Sakkari (GRE) – The 5-time champion advances.

Heather Watson (GBR) v Annika Beck (GER) – Home court edge?

Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) v Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK) 6-3 2-1 (to finish) – Again my policy has me sticking with a player who happens to be leading.

[4] Angelique Kerber (GER) v Varvara Lepchenko (USA) – Kerber could lose here, but I think the pressure of being the most recent slam champion is gone and Kerber will be playing better.

[10] Petra Kvitova (CZE) v Sorana Cirstea (ROU) – Petra should win, but that doesn’t mean she will win.

[14] Samantha Stosur (AUS) v Sabine Lisicki (GER) – Both players can serve well and belt the ball.  Get a seat and enjoy the match.

Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) v Johanna Larsson (SWE)

[21] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) v Su-Wei Hsieh (TPE) 7-5 1-6 (to finish) – The rain may save my earlier pick.

[18] Sloane Stephens (USA) v Shuai Peng (CHN)

[26] Kiki Bertens (NED) v Mona Barthel (GER)

[WC] Evgeniya Rodina (RUS) v Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) 6-3 4-3 (to finish) – I think Rodina was my original pick.

[11] Timea Bacsinszky (SUI)  v Luksika Kumkhum (THA)

[20] Sara Errani (ITA)  v Alizé Cornet (FRA) – Cornet pulls an upset according to the seeding at least.

[28] Lucie Safarova (CZE)  v Samantha Crawford (USA) – This should be a fun match.

Julia Boserup (USA) v Tatjana Maria (GER) – 4-3 (to finish)

[Q] Mandy Minella (LUX) v Anna Tatishvili (USA)

[17] Elina Svitolina (UKR) v Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ)

[31] Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) v Aliaksandra Sasnovich (BLR)

Carina Witthoeft (GER) v Kurumi Nara (JPN)

[15] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) v Misaki Doi (JPN)

Anna-Lena Friedsam (GER) v Ekaterina Alexandrova (RUS)

[24] Barbora Strycova (CZE) v Anett Kontaveit (EST)

[22] Jelena Jankovic (SRB) v Marina Erakovic (NZL)

[29] Daria Kasatkina (RUS)  v Lara Arruabarrena (ESP)

Karin Knapp (ITA) v Ana Konjuh (CRO)

Monica Niculescu (ROU) v Aleksandra Krunic (SRB)

[12] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) v Denisa Allertova (CZE) – I have to throw an upset in somewhere.

[9] Madison Keys (USA) v Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) – Keys could be playing quite deep into this draw.

[32] Andrea Petkovic (GER)  v Nao Hibino (JPN) – 3-6 7-5 5-1 (to finish)
