Wimbledon 2016: Day 3 Gentlemen’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

[1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) v Adrian Mannarino (FRA) – I like Novak to advance in this match.

[3] Roger Federer (SUI) v [Q] Marcus Willis (GBR) – Roger will be the bad guy, but he should win.

[16] Gilles Simon (FRA) v Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) – Grigor needs a win here to hit reset on his 2016, but if Simon is moving well and serving well, Grigor will leave with a lot of questions.

[6] Milos Raonic (CAN) v Andreas Seppi (ITA) – Milos will need to play clean tennis to beat the veteran.

[19] Bernard Tomic (AUS) v Fernando Verdasco (ESP) – 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 3-6 (to finish) – I always stick with my original pick if a match is already in progress.

[30] Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR) v Daniel Evans (GBR)

[8] Dominic Thiem (AUT) v Florian Mayer (GER) 1-2 (to finish) – This should be a fun match.

[9] Marin Cilic (CRO) v Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR)

[5] Kei Nishikori (JPN) v Julien Benneteau (FRA) – Kei needs to hit some good passing shots to win this match, but I think he will.

[10] Tomas Berdych (CZE)  v Ivan Dodig (CRO) – 7-6(5) 5-7 6-1 4-1 (to finish)

[11] David Goffin (BEL) v [Q] Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA)

Horacio Zeballos (ARG) v Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) – This may be a sentimental pick, but I think Youzhny put in some solid preparation for Wimbledon.

Andrey Kuznetsov (RUS) v Gilles Muller (LUX) – Find a seat and enjoy this match if you have tickets.

Donald Young (USA) v Leonardo Mayer (ARG) 6-4 0-2 (to finish)

Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA) v Damir Dzumhur (BIH)

[28] Sam Querrey (USA) v Thomaz Bellucci (BRA)

Jérémy Chardy (FRA) v Steve Johnson (USA) – I think Johnson will mix in enough low bouncing slices to keep Chardy from finding his range.

[18] John Isner (USA) v Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) – Baghdatis wins a serving duel.

[Q] Albano Olivetti (FRA) v Matthew Barton (AUS) – 7-6(7) 6-6(5-5) (to finish) – I think that was my original pick.

[27] Jack Sock (USA) v Robin Haase (NED)

Federico Delbonis (ARG) v Fabio Fognini (ITA) – Can Fabio find his better self?

Jiri Vesely (CZE) v Igor Sijsling (NED) – 6-2 6-4 1-1 (to finish)

[13] David Ferrer (ESP) v Nicolas Mahut (FRA) – Mahut may get 2 sets, but it is hard for me to figure out how he would get 3 versus Ferrer (even on grass).

[32] Lucas Pouille (FRA)  v Marius Copil (ROU)

[23] Ivo Karlovic (CRO) v Lukas Lacko (SVK) – Take cover

Radu Albot (MDA) v Gastao Elias (POR) –  3-6 6-2 7-5 2-1 (to finish)

Nicolas Almagro (ESP) v Denis Istomin (UZB) – I am going against my gut with this prediction.
