US Open 2016: September 4th Men’s Predictions

Arthur Ashe Stadium (11 a.m. start)

[4] Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs [24]  Lucas Pouille (FRA)[24] – I like Rafa to win and likely in straight sets.  I could see Pouille making one set close or even stealing a set.

[1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. Kyle Edmund (GBR) – Novak needs to get into the flow of the tournament with a solid outing here.  I think he wins, but his arm will be under a lot of scrutiny.

Louis Armstrong Stadium

[9] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs [26] Jack Sock (USA) – I have picked against Sock the last two rounds and looked foolish.  I think Tsonga is the better player, but Sock is playing well and has that forehand.

Grandstand

[10] Gael Monfils (FRA) vs. Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) – If Monfils has recovered from his late match scare, he should find a way past a resurgent Baghdatis.  Both men have had good 2016 seasons, but Gael is in better overall form and has more upside in this match.
