Wimbledon 2017: Muguruza vs. Rybarikova Semifinal Prediction

Will she reach the final for the 2nd time in 3 years?

Garbine Muguruza vs. Magdalena Rybarikova

According to experience and rankings, Garbine Muguruza will be reaching her 3rd major final in as many years.  Will that actually happen?  I don’t think so.  Muguruza is the more powerful player.  Her serve is strong, and her groundstrokes are deadly.  Muguruza reached the 2015 Wimbledon final and could easily duplicate that feat vs. Rybarikova.

I think Rybarikova will win because Muguruza’s main strategy is to overpower an oppoent.  Rybarikova moves well, changes the pace and direction of the ball, and plays with a lot of feel.  Muguruza will need to play a nuanced match or simply hit all of her desired spots serving and off of the ground to win.  I think Muguruza is capable of doing that, but I also think that over time Rybarikova will deny Muguruza of the patterns she likes most and start eliciting errors by slicing and dicing her way into that match.  I believe there will be a totally unexpected finalist as Magdalene Rybarikova will win in 2 or 3 sets.

We got it wrong, but I loved the reasoning. Muguruza was just on today.
