Australian Open 2021: Day 5 Women’s Singles Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

Rod Laver Arena (11 a.m. start)

[7] Aryna Sabalenka (BLR) vs. [Q] Ann Li (USA) – Li has had an impressive run and is one to watch, but Sabalenka should advance in 2 or 3 close sets.
[10] Serena Wiliams (USA) vs. Anastasia Potapova (RUS) – Serena’s serve on unexpectedly fast courts have to have her team feeling good about her chances.

[2] Simona Halep (ROU) vs. [32] Veronika Kudermetova (RUS) – Halep is maybe the best defender on tour and will need to be to win this title.

Margaret Court Arena

[19] Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) vs. Sorana Cirstea (ROU) – Crazy? Maybe.
[14] Garbiñe Muguruza (ESP) vs. Zarina Diyas (KAZ) – Muguruza has some momentum from her recent runner-up finish and has to like the fast courts.
[15] Iga Swiatek (POL) vs. Fiona Ferro (FRA) – The new star of Roland Garros 2020 is backing up her status as an elite player with evert match.

John Cain Arena (Noon start)

Hsieh Su-Wei (TPE) vs. [Q] Sara Errani (ITA) – I almost always get Su-Wei’s matches wrong.
[3] Naomi Osaka (JPN) vs. [27] Ons Jabeur (TUN) – The 2019 Australian Open Champion is pursuing a 4th hard court major.
