US Open 2016: September 2nd Men’s Predictions

Predicted Winners in BOLD

[1] Novak Djokovic (SRB)  vs. Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) – Youzhny is a good opponent for Novak as I don’t think he can overpower an injured Novak.  Also, Youzhny’s great variety is neutralized a bit by Novak’s speed and anticipation.

[4] Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs. Andrey Kuznetsov (RUS) – Rafa seems closer to his old self than he has been in awhile.

[7] Marin Cilic (CRO) vs [26] Jack Sock (USA) – Cilic let Sock off of the hook in Davis Cup not too long ago.  I don’t expect him to be as generous in this match.

[20] John Isner (USA) vs. Kyle Edmund (GBR) – This is a bit of a reach, but I think Isner is always ripe for an upset so long as his opponent can take care of his own serve and play well in tiebreaks.

[9] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs. [23] Kevin Anderson (RSA) – Tsonga should win, but this could go either way.

[10] Gael Monfils (FRA) vs. Nicolas Almagro (ESP) – Gael likely needs someone to knock Rafa out if he is going to reach the semifinal round.

Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) vs. [Q] Ryan Harrison (USA) – Both men have a great opportunity to reach the round of 16.  I think Baghdatis has the better serve and better hands.  Harrison likely has better fitness.

[15] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) vs [24] Lucas Pouille (FRA) – Bautista Agut is a fighter and should battle through in a fun match-up.
